Known as the King of Air Plants, Tillandsia xerographica is capable of reaching up to 3 foot in length at maturity, dwarfing other Tillandsia species. It forms a tight rosette of broad, silvery green leaves which taper at the ends, spiralling as they cascade into a writhing mass of octopus-like tentacles. In ideal conditions, you may also get an impressive flower spike up to 40cm tall, bearing striking red/purple flowers within yellow bracts. However, plants will only bloom once in their lifetime, at which stage they are succeeded by new pups produced at the base. Hygienic and air-purifying, this living ornament requires no soil, making it mess-free and easy to maintain.
Air Plants, or Tillandsia, are rainforest plants which grow naturally on rocks and tree branches, gathering the moisture and nutrients they need from the air around them. These tropical plants need very little care to thrive – just plenty of light and humidity.
